Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos may be “confused” over how Selangor’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) is distributed, said Seputeh MP’s aide Lan Suet Ling.

Jamal yesterday accused Kok of delaying distribution of the funeral aid managed by Selangor agency Yayasan Anak Warisan Selangor (Yawas).

“I think Jamal is confused over the mode of payment, our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP),” Lan, who manages the SMUE distribution for Kok’s service centre, told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Explaining the procedure, Lan said the Petaling District Office (DO) has standing instructions with AmBank, where RM10,000 is transferred to the Selangor and Federal Territories elected representatives from PAS, PKR every Tuesday.

The funds are transferred to those appointed to constituency coordinators in areas where the three parties were not elected.

The representatives receive this via Ambank accounts set up by the state in the representatives’ names, for the purpose of aid distribution.

“Our SOP is we withdraw RM10,000 from the ATM every Tuesday, we then call 10 claimants and pay them each RM1,000.

“By the end of each week I need to submit documents to the Petaling District Office to show that 10 claimants have come forward. All claimants will be paid unless they fail to come and claim it. ”

Malaysiakini also sighted withdrawal and records of payment made by the Seputeh constituency, as submitted to the Petaling District Office.

Lan said the representatives only distribute RM1,000 out of the RM2,500 promised to applicants; the remaining RM1,500 is distributed by district officers.

She said some claimants may experience delays when the district offices have insufficient funds to transfer the RM10,000 for each constituency every Tuesday.

Claimants in Seputeh often face this, she said, as the constituency is on the lower end of the state’s list of names of constituencies.

Jamal yesterday alleged that there are at least seven of Kok’s constituents who have yet to receive the aid although Kok’s aide had already registered them. Some are still waiting, 83 days after the death of a family member.

The Umno leader also accused DAP’s Sekinchan assemblyperson Lim Suee Lim, an assemblyperson he refused to name and a PKR politician of misappropriating SMUE funds.

Ng has denied the allegations while the PKR politican has yet to respond to Malaysiakini‘s request for comment.
