Damansara Utama assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin today allowed the media to scrutinise files relating to the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) after Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos accused her of misappropriating the scheme’s funds.

“I deny Jamal’s allegations by producing the receipts and documents right here. We have nothing to hide,” said Yeo at her service centre in Damansara Utama today.
SMUE is an initiative by the Selangor government which grants cash aid to families who have had a death in the family.
Applications are to be made to their elected representative who will provide them with RM1,000 in emergency funds for funeral arrangements while the remaining RM1,500 must be claimed from the district officer.
Yeo shared 12 bundles of files with receipts and signatures of claimants for the RM1,000 as well as accompanying death certificates in Yeo’s constituency dating from 2013.
“I have all the supporting documents, all approved by the Petaling Land Office, to show I have allocated and disbursed funds to SMUE claimants” Yeo said.
The DAP lawmaker challenged Jamal to apply the same level of scrutiny on the federal government’s scandal-plagued investment fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
“Can Jamal apply the same standard to 1MDB? Can 1MDB and its subsidiaries do the same by disclosing their accounts? If not, this is a double standard,” she asked.
She questioned the motives behind Jamal’s allegations.
“Why have I become Jamal’s new target? Last week I demanded (the prime minister’s wife) Rosmah Mansor resign as Permata patron, are these allegations to intimidate me from speaking up about Permata? Is this a tactic to distract the public from Permata?”
Also at the press conference was DAP Selangor Women’s Chief Hannah Yeoh who said Permata’s board of directors need not be “so jumpy and defensive” when asked to explain their accounts.
“Just put the Permata accounts out, like how we have disclosed SMUE accounts,” Yeoh said.
“It’s about time Malaysian taxpayers deserve this kind of treatment when questions are being asked, that’s the mature way of going forward,” the DAP politician added.
Yesterday, Jamal lodged a police report against Yeo, accusing her of misappropriating SMUE funds.
He made similar accusations against Seputeh MP Teresa Kok last week.
