A police report has been filed against Umno information chief Annuar Musa, accusing him of inciting racial hatred and possibly endangering Lim Kit Siang.

This was over the Ketereh MP’s RM10,000 prize offer for the best essay or social media posting based on the title, “LKS is a racist, anti-Islam and a dictator of 51 years, is it true?”

Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who represented DAP, filed the report with the Damansara police station this morning.

DAP assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin, who was also present, said the police report would be retracted if Annuar did the same with regard to the competition, and apologised.

Meanwhile, Jamaliah claimed that the Umno leader had “embarassed Islam” with his action.

“Two years ago, Annuar had said that Islam permitted racism. He is the one who is embarrassing Islam,” she said.

This was in reference to the Umno information chief admitting in September 2015 that he was a racist, but argued that it was in line with Islamic teachings.

He said that acting in defence of Malay honour was permitted in Islam so long as other races were not oppressed in the process.

In a related development, DAP Youth chief Wong Kah Woh also filed a police report against Annuar with the Ipoh district police headquarters.

He expressed concern that Annuar’s action could incite racial tension and cause disharmony.

“Instead of answering and taking up the challenge to sue (Lim), Annuar has chosen to divert the attention against him and resort to the usual race and religion cards by demonising DAP and Lim as ‘anti-Malay’ and ‘anti-Islam’,” he added in a media statement.

He argued that while it was not new for Umno to demonise DAP and Lim when unable to substantiate their accusations, they have now resorted to this attempt which is akin to creating mass defamation.

“This has to be stopped. The police is thus duty bound to record a statement from Annuar and to investigate the matter,” he said.

Annuar had launched the competition in response to Lim branding him the “father of racists”.

In a tit-for-tat response, former law minister and DAP member Zaid Ibrahim offered RM10,000 for the best essay regarding Najib Abdul Razak being the “worst prime minister”.
