My name is Annabelle Lee and I am an independent writer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
My interests are in gender, culture, the environment and more broadly, making a positive impact in Malaysia and the world.
My experience as a writer and communications consultant at UNFPA in Malaysia – the Malaysian office of the United Nations’ sexual and reproductive health agency – allowed me to hone my skills in speech-writing, government affairs, and advocacy.
A bulk of my work has been in journalism. I spent half a decade reporting on people, policies and politics with Malaysiakini, an independent newsroom based in Malaysia. Those five years grounded me in the reality of realpolitik, nurtured my love for the people of this country, and sharpened my skills as a communicator.
As an independent writer and journalist, my work has been published in environmental journalism website Macaranga, Taiwanese financial magazine Commonwealth 天下, Austrian political and cultural magazine DATUM, email newsletter Between The Lines and zine “These Streets Have Stories”.
I also have experience discussing the news on radio.
This website features a selection of my best work thus far.
